About Paloma Negra

Paloma Negra is an independent world music project that fuses folk and traditional songs from Mexico and Latin America. This project was founded by leader Araceli Collazo and Musical Director an, Bass Player and Percussionist Dominic Garcia in California in 2006.

Araceli Collazo is of Mexican-American descent. The exposure to both cultures has allowed her the opportunity to truly see the richness and diversity in which she grew up.

The project is comprised of different ensembles with fabulous guest musicians, lead by Paloma Negra's Musical Director and Bass Player, Dominic Garcia, and Araceli Collazo. Each guest musician always brings a unique sound, with a rich acoustic line in percussion, strings and other folk and traditional instruments. Their sound carries influences from throughout the world.

Paloma Negra has released two music productions: En otros ojos (2008) and Altar (2010), the latter production inspired by Day of the Dead traditions of Mexico and Latin America. The Day of the Dead music series was especially designed and developed for a project originated in Monterrey, México where they gave concerts for three years in a row in the heart of a local, private, cemetery.
