About Courtnee Roze
Courtnee Roze was born in the Bronx, New York, and in her early
years lived with her family of ten in a 3-bedroom apartment in High
Bridge Projects. When Courtnee was 5 years old, her aunt used to make
her and her cousins sing for “company” in the living room. At age 8,
Courtnee and her mom moved to Harlem. Recognizing the importance of
keeping an adolescent busy off the streets, Roze’s mother gave her two
choices of extracurricular actives in the arts. Courtnee had the option to
become a dancer; but when Courtnee heard and felt the spirit of the
drums, she fell in love. Courtnee’s first drum teacher was Master
Drummer- Gene Osborne. He taught Courtnee for most of her child hood
years and advanced her to skills until they became untouchable!
Courtnee Roze developed an interest in hip-hop coming up in the era of
Afrika Bambaataa. Roze and her cousin Shawndel would place a tape of
Big Daddy Kane or G-Rap in the cassette deck to rhyme on top of their
vocals. Instrumentals weren’t available to them, so they made use of
what they had. When they didn’t have access to the radio, they created
‘beat box’ rhymes with their mouths and recorded themselves on a boom
box. Although Roze’s skills were in the embryonic stages of development,
She continued to foster her growth. By age 13, Roze began doing local
shows around the neighborhood. Her aspirations of becoming an
entertainer grew along with her creativity.
Roze’s first studio recording was at the age of 15 and her artistry and
love for music has been a focal point in her life since then.
Courtnee Roze has also form a band called the N*E*R (New Era 0f Rock).
The N*E*R isn’t just any ol’ band. The N*E*R is made up of an
Innovative, eclectic and versatile group of people. The band main
Instrument is the Djembe from West Africa; but they are well versed in
other genres of entertainment as well. When it cam e to the group
members of the N*E*R, Roze hand picked people that would bring more
than one craft to the table. Roze had a vision that entailed hard work
and a “world stars” mentality. There are two band members in the N*E*R,
Courtnee Roze and Shoetyme. Many people wouldn't call the N*E*R a "band" because of the number of people; but these two are a force to be reckoned with. The fans are calling the N*E*R a two man army.
