About St Johns Wort

St Johns Wort, besides a medicinal herb, is an electrifying band from Louisville, Kentucky. With a heart to play the blues and a need to rock people to their feet, SJWs unique style has been best described as Deep-Fried Southern Funk. This four-piece roster consists of Bubba Coy, David Frick, Deanna Burnell, and Mike Wilson.

The group started performing at public venues in 1997 and over the years have participated in numerous Battle of the Bands and always placed among one of the top bands. They have performed on the Kentuckiana Home Grown CD (sponsored by COORS, WQMF, and Phoenix Hill Tavern in Louisville, KY), and on the Local Live CD (sponsored by Wake Fire Studios and WKQQ in Lexington, Ky). SJW has also supported and performed several political functions as well as fund raisers and private parties through out the years.

Under their first independent recording contract with Charlie Walls and Music Man Records, GIVE ME THE BLUES, the bands first album, was released in August of 1998. Songs like KITCHEN FLOOR, JACKSON, and GIVE ME THE BLUES made it to the airways of local radio stations. In 2000 they went back into the studio to self-produce their second CD, a more Rock-oriented Blues project called NO ONE KNEW. With songs like DOCTOR, BOARDWALK, SKIN, and UP AND DOWN it quickly became a fan favorite along with numerous radio stations in Kentucky and Ohio who played several cuts from the CD in their regular rotation.

The band is currently in the studio working on their third album (Title Withheld), and it is projected to be released sometime later this year. They have recently released their new single CHANGE which is a prelude to their upcoming album. Excited about the project, the band proclaims this CD will be chock full of different flavors, from a smooth groove, to a hard funk.

St Johns Wort has been electrifying audiences in Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina and Tennessee, where the band has built up quite a following. With their rocking guitar riffs, funky basslines, and raw-energy performances, SJW is known as one of the regions best original bands, and continues to be recommended as one of Louisvilles must-see acts.
