About edge of now

Edge Of Now is Jeff Birr playing all instruments and wearing all the production hats. He is originally from the Chicago area, but has been working out of his digital home studio in Fort Collins, Colorado since 1997. Jeff has been involved in music and art making since his earliest days and first began experimenting with tape loops and various prepaired pianos and electonics at the age of fifteen in 1980. Jeff studied painting and computer graphics in Davenport, Iowa in the mid 1980's. He continued musical pursuits in a various local bands including the experimental outfit "The Distracted Mystics". In the 1990's he concentrated on painting and began building his digital recording studio and accumulating instruments.

For a few years Jeff teamed up with musical partner James Montagnese under the monikers Aardvark23, Randomfactor and Fluxonic. The music was generally upbeat, IDM with occassional avant wierdness. After the partnership's demise, Jeff became more interested in playing real instruments and dramatically improved his studio and range of sounds. Since 2005, Edge Of Now has been exploring and developing into a fascinating powerhouse of engaging and original sonic adventures.
