About Tony Guillermo

I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. I grew up listening to bands like: Santana, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and AC/DC. As the metal scene emerged I got into bands like: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Metallica. In fact I saw Metallica before they were signed. One evening my girlfriend at the time dragged me to see Stevie Ray Vaughn. I was a total rivet-head and knew nothing of the blues. That show turned my world upside-down. I got into SRV, Clapton, Knopfler, and Hendrix. I still liked the other stuff but my world became a much bigger place. That was also when I got my first guitar. I took a year of classical guitar at SFCC, then got lazy and just played around with guitars. Fast forward to Hawaii and my first paying band Expresso—your basic party cover band. They already had their musical gig down and just needed someone to play leads. I just wanted to play. After Expresso came Mary Lou’s Headache—another cover band only more my style (louder and faster). It was a lot of fun and the extra cash was nice but it was a lot of work. We were playing almost every weekend and practicing one night a week. That’s a lot when you working 40 hours a week (Yup! I have a day job—forklift driver. How blue collar can you get?) Anyway after a year and a half of “the Ache”, I left playing other people’s music in smoky bars and clubs to make my own music in my home studio.
