About Viogression

The band originally called Rape was formed by Leon Schendal & Jef Jaeger in Appleton Wisconsin in 1987. Paul Jaeger joined on Bass. In 1988 Bryan Jaeger replaced Paul on Bass and the name of the band was changed to Apocalypse. After relocating to Milwaukee, Brian DeNeffe joined as vocalist and Viogression was born. In 1989 Viogression entered Wave Digital studios and recorded their 1st demo entitled “Perception Blur”, which was mostly comprised of songs written before Brian DeNeffe’s arrival in the band, save for the title track Perception Blur.Unhappy with the demo, Viogression went back to Wave Digital in March of1990(a few months later)  and recorded the “Execution” demo. Eric Johnston was added as a second guitar player in April of 1990. In May, for various reasons, Jef Jaeger was asked to leave the band. He was replaced on Drums by Barry Jaeger . Viogression entered the recording studio again in June of 1990 to record the “Devils” demo this time going to Mauer Brothers studio. Upon hearing the demo the band was offered a 5 album recording contract with Tombstone records. The tracks from the “Devils” demo; Choir of Loudon, Circle of the Divine & Fragmented Carcass would become part of Viogression’s 1st full length album for Tombstone records entitled “Expound & Exhort”. In the summer of 1991 Eric Johnston left and Bryan Jaeger switched to guitar and Ed Lockerman joined on Bass. In the fall of 1991 & the spring of 1992 the band toured North America & Canada with the bands Death and Pestilence. In the summer of 1992 Leon Schendal left the band. Dave Haley was recruited on guitar to replace Leon a month later. In  the fall of 1992 Viogression began recording their 2nd album at Wave Digital studios for Tombstone records entitled “Passage”. Wave studios went bankrupt before the album was finished, unbeknownst to the band the master recordings were lost. Viogression did have a tape of the recordings, but it was missing tracks and had scratch guitar tracks & serious EQ & level issues. The bands contract was bought by Progressive records who assured the band that Passage would be remixed and mastered, Progressive records actually released the session tape. Unhappy with Progressive records Viogression disbanded in 1994. In 2004 Brian DeNeffe & Bryan Jaeger decided to resurrect Viogression and began writing songs in Brian’s home studio. In 2008 Eric Shultek was asked to play drums on 4 songs that would become Viogression’s 2014 EP entitled “a pure formality”. In 2014 Duane Timlin became the drummer of Viogression.  In 2015 Bryan Jaeger quit music. In 2016 Matt Holtz joined as guitarist. In 2017 Jim Potter was recruited on guitar. In 2018, Ed Lockerman was unable to commit and Jason Hellman became Bassist. In May of 2019 Jim Potter left the band. On 02/22/20 Viogression entered Bell City Sound studios to record their 3rd full length album entitled the 3rd Stage of Decay. A world wide Pandemic delayed the process, but eventually the album was complete. In January 0f 2022 the band signed with Satanath records. The album is scheduled for release April 17, 2022. Viogression will be touring in support of the release of 3rd Stage of Decay beginning April 22,2022.
