About Atsiaktonkie

Hailing from the Kanienkehaka (ga-yun-gay-ha-ga) Territory meaning people of the flint, Atsiaktonkie (ah-jeeak-doon-gee-ay) is more then a singer-songwriter, he is a charismatic performer who invites listeners to embark on a spiritual journey through the power of voice, music, and lyrics.

A self-taught musician who is versatile in guitar, piano, harmonica, drums, bass guitar, hand drum, and flute, Atsiaktonkie is most widely known as the singer-songwriter for the band December Wind and has been delighting audiences across the country with his Native Alternative Folk Rock for over 10 years

Now with over 1,500 songs to his credit, nomination for two Native Music Awards, as well as two highly acclaimed CDs Sacred Voices (Canyon Records) and Second Wind (Strong Wind Records), Atsiaktonkie has become a one of the most admired industrious trendsetters in folk music today.

While residing on the Akwesasne (Mohawk) Territory nestled between New York and Canada, Atsiaktonkie has managed to maintain a wide fan base stretching the country nationwide especially in the southwestern states and internationally throughout Canada. He even caught the attention of Neil Young who sent Atsiaktonkie the song The Treaty to record.

When Neil Young sent me that song, I was not spiritually ready to record it, said Atsiaktonkie. However I did recently start working on it, and I am very excited to hear what Neil Young thinks once it is finished.

On his latest solo project, Four Wolves Prophecy(Strong Wind Record), Atsiaktonkie mixes elements of folk, rock, country and Americana with poignant lyrics, harmonious melodies, and vocals reminiscent of Neil Young and Michael Stipe (REM). His superb musical style has garnered such comments as The most beautiful music I ever heard, I simply must buy this CD, Every cut is a gem, Just incredible, Absolutely worth a listen, and Top-notch.

A portion of the proceeds from all CD sales will benefit the Akwesasne Freedom School, which without funding could result in the Mohawk language and culture diminishing completely.
