About kathy kurasch

Kathy Colby Kurasch’s extraordinary career began at the young age of fourteen. With the tremendous musical influence from her accomplished studio violinist father, William Kurasch, Katharine (Kathy) composed her first song at the age of ten and landed her first publishing contract at fourteen. At seventeen she served as a judge for the American Song Festival, was a guest speaker at UCLA’s Record Production Class, and was nominated to be on the board of governors for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
Before the age of twenty-one Kathy composed, engineered, and produced the long running mini song jingles for CBS KNX-FM featuring such artists as Mr. Mister, Amy Holland, Billy Vera, and Jimmie Spheeris.
Her songs have been performed by Kim Carnes, Rita Coolidge, Philip Bailey, Lauren Wood, Valerie Carter, and featured on Farm Aid, Solid Gold, MTV & VH1.
In 1990 Kathy started The Audio Prop House providing recording studio, radio station, and concert sets for movies and television, including ‘The Doors,’ ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It?’ and ‘Wayne’s World’.
In 1995 Kathy created E-Video, a computerized playback system for filming televisions. Using MPEG 1, Apple Computers, and custom software and hardware, this system converts 30 frames per second to 24 frames per second, displays multiple images from a single computer simultaneously, and sends a sync pulse to the camera, eliminating the ‘roll bar.’ This was the first computerized playback system to be used in the studios and was used exclusively its first year of existence by televisions Beverly Hills 90210.
In 1996 while still engineering and advising, Kathy continued composing and her song 'I Say Amen', sung by Valerie Carter and backed by James Taylor and Kate Markowitz, was released on the album 'The Way It Is' and featured artists Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Lyle Lovett, and Phoebe Snow.
In 1998 Kathy's composition “I Want You Back” was recorded by Gene Dunlap on Avenue Jazz.
Kathy spent the the first ten millennium years investing in Malibu real estate and designing homes. Her homes caught the attention of the celebrity community and became home to Garry Shandling, Tom Petty, Stan Winston, and Diana Ross.
Kathy continues to compose and produce music today. With the passing of her longtime friend Valerie Carter, Kathy and Valerie's sister, Jan, started their own indie label Cowboy Angel Records and released 'The Lost Tapes', a collection of unreleased songs by Valerie and Prince, Lowell George, Will Jennings, Burt Bacharach, Steve Tyrell, David Lasley, Marsha Malamet, and Allee Willis with guest vocalists Linda Ronstadt, Nicolette Larson, Lauren Wood, and David Lasley. The album was received with rave reviews and Kathy is currently producing 'The Lost Tapes' Volume 2.
