| About Asleep | Asleep is a melting pot of musical influences. The band's most recent album "Unpleasant Companion" was recorded and mixed in 4 days with legendary Chicago engineer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, PJ Harvey) to capture a live dynamic onto 16 track 2-inch tape. The result was a raw and noisy rock sound that represents what the listener can expect to hear at an Asleep show. The album’s central theme explores how we manage to stay so addictively connected yet simplistically separated from one another through the same digital loops in the current fabric of the information age. This entirely analog offering is fittingly being released on 12-inch vinyl. Asleep's first record, "All These Things We'll Never Need" was released on Cleveland, OH based independent label Fractured Transmitter (owned by Jason Popson of Mushroomhead) in 2006. The album sold 15,000 plus copies alongside releases like Meshuggah's "I", "We Reach" (Melvin's tribute), and the Gene Hoglan / Jason Popson collaboration, Pitchblack Forecast. Asleep paired with Long Island, New York based producer Mike Watts in late 2008. Working with Watts allowed the band to shape their pop tooth and produce a more “focused” and “easily palatable” effort, with "Between, Above, and Below". Watt’s resume consists of such notable and diverse acts as The Dear Hunter, As Tall as Lions, Hopesfall, The Almost, Saliva, Adelitas Way, The Scenic, and The Junior Varsity. No strangers to performing for sizeable audiences, Asleep has supported numerous major artists such as Kings of Leon, Deftones, Chevelle, Three Days Grace, Kill Hannah, Hinder, Wolfmother, Mushroomhead, Trapt, and Hawthorne Heights. Coupled with maturing past experiences in the industry and the addition of a new drummer, Asleep is constantly honing their sound and forging new musical direction. The philosophy for the band has continually remained the same: There is never a moment to sit back and relax. This belief has fueled the lives of the members of Asleep, who see no end in sight to their creative outlet, and are optimistic and persistent about taking their music to the masses. |
