| About Rob Hughes | Rob Hughes is a pianist from Bristol in the South-West of England. Trained as a classical musician from the early age of four, Rob has always loved to play the music of many great composers. As he entered his teens, he became more and more interested in improvisation, and playing by ear. He started to listen to music from other genres, and his own playing style emerged out of the eclectic mix of musics he had explored. Rob loves contemporary pop/rock and alternative music, and much of his work now involves the creation of piano arrangements of current pop/rock repertoire. Since January 2011, Rob has showcased his piano covers of pop/rock repertoire on YouTube, under the channel name of SlightlyMadUK. His channel's exposure seems to be rapidly increasing, and within a year he has amassed over 3000 subscribers, and achieved almost 1 million upload views. Following the enormous continuing success of Rob's YouTube channel (far exceeding any expectations that Rob and his friends/family may have had at the outset), Rob decided to record a studio album, featuring 12 of his best piano covers. "Undercover" explores some real gems, mostly from rock/pop repertoire of the past year or two. In June 2012, Rob released a 4-track EP of original piano compositions, entitled the "Jekyll & Hyde EP". Two of the tracks were collaboratively composed with Rob's Slovak friend, Lucia Ševčíková. This was an exciting new project, enjoyed enormously by both Rob and Lucia; the two tracks were given Slovak names ("Prebúdzanie" (Awakening) and "Rozlúčka" (Farewell)) in celebration of the successful collaboration. The other two tracks, "Jekyll & Hyde" and "Scramble" see Rob exploring dissonance, juxtaposed against formal diatonic harmony. Both pieces showcase a struggle betwen two opposing harmonic languages, and this is suggested in different way by both titles.
