About Emerald (EST)

Emerald, the metal band from Viljandi, Estonia, was first formed back in 2008, but the real activity started in January 2009. After a month of rehearsals, Emerald played their first show in Viljandi city band contest and won the event. That year we had more shows and our first Festival appearance in Rock Ramp 2009 (3500 vistors). In November 2009 we started recording our first EP "How About Discount?". It was released in February 2010. (Self-released, DIY CD-R.) "How About Discount?" was recorded in Tartu, Estonia, by Raido Traumann. It was mixed and mastered in Sweden by Dino Medanhodzic. In February we had 5 EP presentations - four shows in Estonia and our first show in Latvia (Riga). In summer and autumn 2010 we played mostly in Estonia to get more experience and some hardcore fans. In winter we started making plans for some more shows outside Estonia. In 2011 April we had a two day tour to Latvia (Cesic and Liepaja) and a week later our first shows in Lithuania (Siauliai and Vilnius). Also in the end on April we played our first show in Finland (Forssa). In May 2011 we were invited to play in a Festival in Lithuania, Gadi Festival (1500 visitors). We played on the main stage as one of the headliners. In June we played our hearts out in Hard Rock Laager Festival. Biggest metal festival in Baltics (2000 visitors) with Mnemic, My dying bride, Napalm Death, Rotting Chris etc. In September had a weekend tour in Finland and played in Helsinki and Salo. In the end of September we started recording our first single “WWIII”. The single was recorded and mastered the same way as our EP but we used better backline and some new gear to make our sound more aggressive and powerful. It was relased in October and we went on a road again to Lithuania for 2 shows (Siauliai and Vilnius). In November 2011 we had a small Baltic Tour in Latvia and Estonia (5 days) with Enhet (LV) and Re-armed (FIN). 2012 started with playing in Latvia (Valmiera) and Lithuania (Vilnius).
