| About Dawson Graham | I was first captured by "performing" when my grandparents convinced me at eight years old to sing in one of my hometown (Statesville, NC) churches. I hate even referring to it as performing, because I've always revealed my true self in music more than anywhere else. I can still remember the feeling that came over me as I looked out across the congregation, seeing the mixture of emotion that filled the room. I began to dabble in songwriting at the age of 15, and when I was asked two years later to sing a special song at my high school for the graduating class of 2005, my first true attempt was tested. After spending a few days listening to songs and making a list of covers, I started jotting down different things that I specifically wanted the song I chose to say. The day before graduation came and I still hadn't selected a song, but when I looked again at the list I'd made, an idea for a melody came to mind and "A Few More Miles to Go" came together. My first experience with delivering a message through lyrics, and it paid off with a standing ovation. I was able to create a rough recording of the song in a basement, which is what you are listening to on my page. I have since written many more songs, and have continued preparing a 10-track debut album release. Now 24, I've recently wrapped up the last semester of my senior year of college, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Communications with my concentration being in Audio Engineering. As a pursuing singer/songwriter I also want to be able to continue molding and preparing myself for a career in the music industry not only through further development of vocal and writing skills, but by learning from as many perspectives as possible. Audio Engineering has made me a better songwriter, and a better performer overall because of the experience I've gained at the production level. My dream is to make my living by pouring my heart and soul into music that truly speaks to those who are exposed to it. I'll always enjoy music as a listener , but my favorite moments are still those that come when I know a phrase or song I've delivered has found its way into someone's heart and changed something. |
