Miguel’s ever-growing fan base appreciates his musical talent for mixing acoustic with electronica to create a style of music that satisfies the lounge lover and the clubber. In 2005 he arrived in London from all the musical and natural inspirations of Lisbon to study audio engineering and production techniques. He now also works as a producer with other emerging successful artists. His influences range from Jazz, R&B, House, Soul and Rock to Electronic music. Also, he takes his musical influences from African, Latin and Indian rhythms and creates his own unique and distinctive sound. For him, his music just has to be full of emotional content and wonderfully for us it is also incredibly Funky, Soulful and Deep. AWARDS "Micro Talk" - Radioindy's GrIndie Award ALBUMS REVIEWS "Micro Talk" by Miguel Rodrigues is an innovative electronica and house album that is full of funky riffs and soulfully energetic beats. Rodrigues without a doubt has a style all his own, composed of electronica, house, dance, funk, and jazz, and this album puts that style on full display. The listener will certainly experience a sort of serenity while listening to “Micro Talk,” as he takes listeners on a journey filled with layer upon layer of beautiful sounds mixed with warm, but active, grooves and beats. The sequences are all very tight and the production is of very high quality. "Blue Ball" kicks things off, and to say it is funky would be a tremendous understatement. It's an excellent introduction track that gives the full taste of the style of tracks to come. "Mr. G" pulls things back a bit and gives you more of a deep house vibe while still maintaining Rodrigues’ style. The title track "Micro Talk" wraps things up and features some clever horn work and a bit of sex appeal. Those that enjoy discovering unique electronica artists with a multitude of influences will love “Micro Talk” and should waste no time in picking this one up. -William & the RadioIndy Review Team -------------------------------------------------- “Micro Talk”, the latest release from Lisbon native Miguel Rodrigues, is an open, funky mix of ambient electronica for loungers and club goers alike. Without question, Miguel has a super clean signature touching on a wide variety of genres from jazz, r&b, soul, rock, roots and world sounds. His production style incorporates a smoothed over medley of rythmatic charm from Africa, India and Latin America. Tight rhythms paired with catchy, funky grooves condense this CD into a clean, clear ambient variant of electronica. Simple, predictable yet attractive arrangements offer a cool trendy vibe while subtle and smooth transitions are created by a multi layer of instrumentation built in as part of the rhythm section. Mr. G., one of the tracks on this cd, is filled with a South Asian influence in both rhythm and upper melody choices. Joyful and heartfelt, this piece is a stable contribution to the overall CD. A fervent drumbeat underlines and drives the track while an upbeat melody adds a soulful element as the bridge transits into a dance-trance solo section that takes centre stage. A personal favorite is the title track “Micro Talk.” A silky jazz intro sets the palette for a lively production. Complex and exciting, there is depth reflected in the arrangement choices which distinguish a mature style and understanding of the jazz genre. Miguel also features his guitar playing, an electric mezzo rock solo that stretches into an angst yearning juxtaposed against the other jovial instrumental elements. Musically, the CD is full of synth effects that illustrate in celebratory muse rather than conflict. While the atmosphere weaves a soft texture, it is neither demanding nor troubled and offers a wide listening range. It is perfect for the lounge affect, wonderfully intermittent in timing and movement. Aside from the richness in multi tones and the strong usage of effects within the electronic range – there is a very organic foundation to Miguel’s work that is admirable. Purity peaks within the core of each track consistently as he separates every instrument within the layers of the rhythm section making the collaborative medley crystal clear. In this age with so much distortion of sound quality and mishmash of instruments, it is refreshing to listen to work that offers a clear creative vision. Furthermore, it is a witness to his credibility as artist and producer, the latter of which he offers to emerging artists professionally as well. As Miguel continues to expand his artistry, it will be interesting to see collaborations with various singers. It may not be on the horizon, and only a music critic’s projection but with such a vision at present, it could only enhance and add richness to his musical repertoire.
