About Cheektowaga records | Zane Campbell grew up in Kentucky and northeastern Maryland, when I met him he was living in N.Y.C. (a tall lean slick guy with slick jet black hair) , it was through friends of theirs who I’d also signed to independent record label Cheektowaga Music, which had a bunch of sub-labels. A lot of the material I produced myself, apart from Zane Campbell & Hard Facts – this was an already finished production I simply put it out as with the Dermot Brennan tracks which was produced by the UK producer Tony Mansfield. Zane Campbell & Hard Facts were a good live band and this recording on the master tape is excellent, but the pressing was horrid. The mastering and pressing was left to Cook Brothers out of New England, who at the time were one of the top-notch record pressing plants in the country. However, being a small record label with no budget we opted out of the “in-person” mastering session due to the 190 dollar per hour fee, big mistake the resulting vinyl pressing was abysmal. In fact, we had very bad luck with the pressing plants and distributors. The recording studio reportedly wanted their name removed from the cover! I don’t know why Cook Brother’s would take advantage of a novice like myself, and why no one would help me. I did not do Rap or Soul, I chose Rock, and that didn’t sit well with the status quo of the era. We were able to obtain worldwide distribution via Caroline, Cargo, Important, Homestead, Dutch East India, ZYX – in Europe, David Gresham in South Africa, King Record – S. Korea, Valentine Records – Japan, and by mail order through the now defunct "Boston Rocks" magazine. this was before the internet and life was analogue based. Cheektowaga Records, a.k.a Cheektowaga Music was formed in 1979 by Black American entrepreneur Herbert V. Reid Jr. a.k.a. "Little Herbert of Buffalo, New York. The name "Cheektowaga" means "Land of the Crab Apples" as per the Seneca Nation American Indian Tribe native to the area. This is real musicians, playing real instruments, sweating, and shredding every chord. N.Y.C. punk / new wave circa 1986, cheap thrilling East Village booze-soaked rock and roll sodomy. Recorded in Caldwell N.J @ Sanctuary Recording studios Richard Tozzi engineer, Herbert V. Reid producer. ( except where other-wise noted ) This is history for your ears that will spark that urge to hear a screaming electric guitar. All the bands played CBGB’s back in the day, none became as famous and The Ramones, or Blondie but they rocked.
