About Ty Hunter Jr.

Ty Hunter Jr's musical aspirations began as a child in his native Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late renowned R&B tenor vocalist Ty Hunter.

The late Ty Hunter was a singer, songwriter and record producer who sang with The Romeos, The VoiceMasters, Ty Hunter & The VoiceMasters and the Holland- Dozier-Holland Invictus label mixed-vocal group The Glass House (Look What We've Done To Love. Crumbs Off The Table) with Scherrie Payne (The Supremes). Ty Hunter was a solo artist on many labels including Anna/Chess/Checkmate Records (Memories, Lonely Baby, In Time, Orphan Boy) and later a member of Motown's, The Originals (Baby I'm For Real and The Bells) with Hank Dixon, Freddie Gorman & Walter Gaines.

Ty Jr. is the nephew of late R&B baritone/second tenor Herschel Hunter of The Monitors and the amazing Hot Wax label men's vocal group, 100 Proof (Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed, Too Many Cooks, Everything Good is Bad, One Man's Leftovers) and The Martiniques.

Ty Jr's early Detroit and Motown musical influences through his father, left him intrigued with the thoughts of a career as a songwriter, music producer and artist. From a very young age, Ty Jr. was in the presence of master R&B songwriters at work including his father Ty Hunter's childhood best friend Lamont Dozier of Motown's acclaimed Holland-Dozier-Holland; also the late great singers, record producers and songwriters Richard "Popcorn" Wylie, Billy Roquel Davis and Jimmy "Soul" Clark.

As an adult, Ty Jr. studied music production and arranging for two years at the acclaimed Grove School of Music in Southern California.

Following the Grove School of Music, Ty Jr. was taken under the wings and mentored by record producer, songwriting greats the late Freddie Gorman (Please Mr. Postman, Just Like Romeo & Juliet) and the late Leon Ware (Quincy Jones' Body Heat, If I Ever Lose This Heaven and Marvin Gaye's I Want You). Ty Jr. was given hands-on in-studio record production, songwriting and arranging training by the late Leon Ware for the entirety of his great, Leon Ware CD.

During the recording of Leon Ware's CD, Ty Jr. was introduced to and in-studio tutored by songwriting, music arranging and record producer greats the likes of Grammy award winning Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, Marty Paich, David Paich and TOTO (during the recording of Africa).

Ty Jr. has also been given in-studio, one-on-one songwriting instruction by Grammy award winning songwriter, artist and record producer Bruce Hornsby. Bruce Hornsby's instruction was given during the recording days of his Grammy Award winning, The Way It Is and Mandolin Rain.

With the knowledge from his background, education and tutoring absorbed, Ty Jr. stepped up and began to write and produce professional musical tracks for himself and family member artists Ebony & Jayde. Ty Jr. and Ebony & Jayde were picked up by A&M Records as songwriter, producer and artists. During their time at A&M, Ty Jr. and Ebony & Jayde wrote, produced and recorded several professional music tracks.

Ty Jr. then went on to partner up with renowned R&B/ Hip-Hop songwriter, record producer and sound engineer Dillon Fred Gorman (Christina Aguilera's "Dirty" multi-platinum CD, Boyz 2 Men/En Vogue/Maya songwriter/producer/engineer/re-mixer). Ty Jr. and Dillon Gorman produced many professional tracks.

Addionally, via the late Freddie Gorman's performance of his single "My Love" on NBC's The Late Night Show, Ty Jr's musical arrangement was performed on National television by the members of the late Doc Severinsen's Late Night Show Band.

Ty Jr. then worked as collaborating songwriter and record producer on professional recording tracks with acclaimed legendary R&B guitarist the late Wah Wah Watson (Michael Jackson's Off The Wall and Thriller, "Car Wash", "Poppa Was A Rolling Stone", Marvin Gaye's What's Going On and Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite).
