About Jonathan Brandstater

Music has been an important part of my life since I was a child. I took violin lessons for several years and studied Classical guitar for one semester of college credit. As an aside, after the session ended, I figured out how to play some basic guitar chords so as to play folk and rock tunes.

In addition, I have taught myself a variety of instruments, such as harmonica, recorder, Native American flute and didgeridoo (Australian aboriginal wind instrument).

For the past twenty years, I have been making and playing my own musical instruments. My favorite ones are drums. They tend to be the most forgiving instruments. One can make a drum from a variety of materials and in a variety of ways. Many other instruments do not allow such leeway. Some require tuning and other special maintenance.
