Guitarist, Tony Butler has been awarded Instrumentalist of the Year in San Diego CA, Peoples Choice Awards. Their roots are in practically every genre of music there is, from rock and hard rock of the 60s and 70s to jazz, blues, rock and roll, and even classical. Influences: Anyone who sings or plays with conviction. Experience: Separately and together the Nickel boys have opened for many top performers, the most recent being chart topper, Jimmy Wayne. Others include Waylon Jennings, Aaron Tippin, David Frizzel, Joe Diffie, Mark Chestnut, Tanya Tucker, The Doo Wah Riders, Bobby Bare, The Belamy Brothers, Hank Williams Jr., Little Texas, and George Jones. Slick Nickel is adept at performing for a concert or a multi-hour dance, outdoors or indoors, hall or stadium. Any stage is home to Slick Nickel. Slick Nickel cut an eleven song CD in 2009 and has been pushing out to radio through Bob Bender Productions, Hendersonville, TN. Early in 2009 a D.J. from 103.7 FM in Dannevirke, New Zealand ran across Slick Nickel on their My Space site and requested a CD. Since then Slick has had a hit on 3 stations in New Zealand with their track 1 cut of a Merle Haggard classic, “The Running Kind”. Slick was invited to New Zealand to do a short tour in January 2011. While in New Zealand Slick Nickel won over the folks on the north island and had a prime race horse named after them. The CD is called MAGIC and has one other Merle Haggard classic and 9 original numbers by Slick Nickel. Slick’s 2nd CD, “120º In The Shade” has recently been released.11 original songs by the Nickel boys make this one hot album! Slick just returned to the USA from a whirlwind 7 week tour in New Zealand which began with headlining the prestigious Marton Country Music Festival, the TSB Festival Of Lights in New Plymouth, and 15 shows later ending at the beautiful Sky City Casino in Hamilton. Slick Nickel has been invited back to perform for numerous other casinos in New Zealand and Australia and is currently writing songs for CD number 3. |
