| About Dear August | For a band conceived of 8 years ago in a horse stable with no heat and no running water, cutting it’s teeth between hatchet tossing contests and camelback rides at town fairs, Dear August has come a long way. Well, 70 miles or so at least. Bass player Frank Torrey’s second child arrived last November, while the Applegate’s welcomed their first in January. Last fall lead guitar player Dan O’Brien got wise and realized the rest of the entire band was soon to be in dire need of a babysitter, so he smartly set out to spend six months in the Scottsdale desert. But just before the skies opened and everything let loose at the end of ’09, we checked into our second home at DNA Music Labs in Madison. 7 months pregnant, Adrienne bellied up to the mic while she could still catch a decent breath, and the band got to work on a new album. The result was Act Ready, out November 26, 2010. When recording was complete, the band packed things up and went on hiatus for a few months, but upon founding member Dan O’Brien’s return to Wisconsin this spring the band quickly regrouped and hit the ground running, playing a handful of shows at fine establishments like The Capital Brewery, The Great Dane, Restaurant Magnus, Furthermore and Talula. With just enough cash rounded up, it was back to Mark Whitcomb at DNA. A year after it’s inception the album is finally complete. Now what? To start, two release parties on two home turfs. November 26th is the Madison CD Release Party at Magnus, followed by our Spring Green CD Release Party at the Spring Green General Store November 28th. And then? Right after the last show at the General Store Dan O’Brien takes flight to California, Adrienne Applegate goes back to playing songs for the dog on the back porch, and the band as we know it disbands with an uncertain future. But what a note to end on... We captured something we knew would soon be fleeting. It is our last chapter, after 8 wonderful years, 230 plus shows, and a great book waiting to be written. We hope you will enjoy the new album.
