Dat Water

Hi, I'm Aladdin and I go by the name Da Real Lad. I am a writer, producer and artist from Racine, Wisconsin. Home to artists such as Chi Coltrane, Barbara McNair, Ellen Corby, Ben Sidran and Kristin Bauer van Straten. Since the age of 5 I've possessed this ability to remember lyrics and harmonies from songs being played by my parents on albums. From Kenny G, Simply Red, Isley Bros, ZZ Top and my favorite Phil Collins. The list goes on and on. I can remember my dad spinning Easy E's album and then switching it to LL Cool J. From that point, I been a slave to music. It wasn't until we moved to Memphis at the age of 10 in 1993, when I was able to demonstrate my skills in front of an audience.
I started singing in the church choir while learning to play the drums and then started singing in the school's chorus group. Also while doing plays, speeches and sports at Snowden School. I was 11 years old when I wrote my first lyrics. After freestyling to a drop in En Vogue's, 'Hold On' single. My environment also played a roll in influencing me to start rapping. We stayed in Evergreen where 3 6 Mafia was at every corner I turned and 8 Ball & MJG was 'Coming Out Hard'.
I never questioned my family about our musical capabilities. So I dug up info and found who were and is professional musicians and singers in my family. Some names are, Hank Crawford who played the sax in Ray Charles' Band, Shelbra Bennett, singer from Soul Children and bass musician Anthony Crawford. My uncle Hubert Crawford, Anthony's dad, also played the drums in a band. Then I remembered going to his house in Mississippi to play around on his drum set. Once I found out the history of my family. I decided to make my own history and learn any and everything about my craft, to make me a better artist and business man.
In 1996 the family moved back home to Racine and that's when we decided to take our talents up a notch. My little brother, cousin and I started performing with other locals around southeast Wisconsin. We stood out more than everybody else that considered themselves to be good locally beacause we were the only minors performing at parties, bars and clubs that we were not able to get in legally. In 1999 we started an open mic night at a community center for others to showcase their talents and art. This was the year I started producing original beats.
With nothing but time and patience, I've accumulated numerous amount of industry contacts. Ranging from A&R's, Producers, Label Owners, Radio Executives, Talent Agencies, Promoters, Booking Agents, DJ's, etc..... Thanks to the new world of social media. Twitter is the site that most of these lucrative companies and business people follow me. Along with Entertainment Tonight, Worldstar Hip Hop and a few actors from your favorite TV shows or movies. I'm in a position to help others with their talents as a manager. But, I want to be the one to lead by example first.
