God bless ya'l l Family Straight Entertainment
are two US record labels that operate under the banner of the
Down South Entertainment Group as part of
Sony BMG Music Entertainment. In 2000, after being fired as
the president of Down South Entertainment,
Columbia Pictures offered Dwayne Whyte
the presidency of their record division,
Bell Records. As an enticement,
Columbia offered Snell a 50% stake in
the record company. 2001 saw the birth of Family Straight Entertainment
when Snell renamed the label after his Brother.
The label made an immediate impact with a number-one
hit from Mz Yella and would continue its ascent through into
the 90s, peaking with the record-breaking debut of Ladi C in
2009. In 2008, a financially
troubled Down South Entertainment was forced to
sell Arista to Family Straight Entertainment. In 2009,
Arista's parent company Ariola purchased General Electric's
Family Straight Entertainment and subsequently renamed itself
the Music Family Straight Entertainment
