True artists are not just born they are designed. They are called by a purpose and equipped to pursue one thing: the need to create. For R&B singer/songwriter J. Mèlon, her purpose has always been clear. She is destined to shake up the music world and leave her mark among the greats.
With a family full of gifted vocalists, it’s no surprise that from childhood her melodic voice could be heard in her church’s gospel choir and local talent shows. She took to writing at a young age too, using her lyrical gift as a way to express things that friends and people around her just didn’t seem to understand. As her inner artist began to grow, so did her hunger for the spotlight.
After honing her craft at The Berklee College of Music and Five Towns College she found success in the gospel realm. But true artistry is about evolution. J. Mèlon realized that in order to be her most genuine self she needed to tell her own stories, so she made the transition to R&B.
She mirrors the authenticity of those who inspire her (artists like Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Kendrick Lamar). There’s a power behind the sweetness of her voice, something intriguing in her harmonies. Vulnerability breathes through her lyrics as she opens up about heartaches and successes, love and regrets. She goes effortlessly from up-tempo anthems to slow ballads, and keeps her music just as versatile as life’s situations. She’s the type of artist who reminds us all that music is just as much therapy as it is entertainment.
But it’s deeper than just music for J. Mèlon. She stands behind a message of love and acceptance, encouraging people to be true to themselves through her artistry. She embraces the opportunity to act as a role model and hopes to inspire women to really recognize their worth as queens. She is talented and driven, ready to win over fans and conquer the charts.
