What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind, a form of focused relaxation that helps to bypass the conscious mind and gain access to the subconscious. When you’re hypnotized, you’re in a trance state, which means you’ve shifted your focus away from the world around you and your mind drifts off and freely focuses on a single idea. This state of mind or ‘trance’ happens naturally when you’re engrossed in watching a movie or reading a good book.

Hypnosis comes from the Greek word Hypnos, which means sleep. However, to experience hypnosis, you need to be awake so you can interact with the hypnotherapist. So, in modern terms we use the word hypnosis to describe an altered state of consciousness which means you are not asleep or even awake, it’s a lot like daydreaming. It is you using your mind in a different way, allowing yourself to go into a different state of awareness, so it is nothing to fear.

When you’re in a trance state, your conscious mind kind of switches off, and stops analysing everything around you and you’re able to relax and calm your mind. This helps to remove resistance, and that’s when you can access your subconscious mind, the part of the brain that will readily accept suggestions without questioning or analysing them. Your subconscious mind is like a huge memory bank. Its capacity is virtually unlimited; it can permanently store everything that ever happened to you. In this frame of mind, you’re able to re-write the way you think, you’re able to challenge and change any underlying beliefs, remove negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones very easily.

Hypnotherapy is an effective therapeutic tool that is used to create subconscious change in a person, which can form new responses, thoughts, attitudes, feelings and behaviours. Hypnotherapy offers a solution to those problems we are unable to resolve or achieve solely with our conscious mind. Hypnotherapy can help you make long-lasting positive improvements to your life.

What You Feel Under Hypnosis?

Some people experience loss of sensations or numbness in different parts of the body, finding hypnosis mentally and physically relaxing. Hypnosis is a very personal experience, whatever sensations you may experience will be right for you. Our subconscious mind is our true wisdom. Hypnosis acts as an opening between the conscious world and the wisdom of our subconscious self.

How Does Self Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy Work?

Everything begins with your thoughts. Your thoughts trigger your feelings and your feelings influence your behaviours. So when your thoughts change, your feelings change and so does your behaviour.

Using hypnosis with therapeutic suggestions, can relax your mind and body, so that you learn to relax your mind, you naturally feel relaxed and so enjoy the sensation of pure relaxation. While you’re in this ‘feel good state’ your subconscious willingly accepts positive suggestions.

When you’re hypnotized, you’re more receptive to positive suggestions:

Behaving on positive suggestions

This allows changes to happen very quickly. At the end of the session you will notice a difference in the way you think and feel. This will change your behaviours helping you to relax your mind, body and spirit. Some behaviours are learnt, which can have a negative effect on your life. Using Hypnosis these behaviours can be changed into positive behaviours, which will help you to achieve your desired goal.
