She began to write as an outlet during a troubling time in her late teen years. As life evolved and unfolded, so did her writing, dreams and aspirations. Gradually, Shavonne realized that she’d actually begun living the very things she had hoped for in her poems and she desired to share them with others.
She accepted the invitation to perform at a local Open Mic show hosted by a fellow Poet and friend. The warm reception from the audience instilled in her the confidence to continue on her journey. Many people expressed the sentiment that her poetry is like a ministry to them. Her writings had become her healing and she wanted share this hope, joy, encouragement and inspiration with the world.
Performances include;
Java Monkey Coffee Shop, Gathering Grounds Coffee House, Sip Coffee Lounge, The Hotspot Coffee Shop, Apache Café and Mind & Muscle Lifestyle Boutique all in Atlanta,GA as well as The Clark Festival in Athens, GA and Busboys & Poets in Washington, D.C. She's also been featured on Hotwordz Lyrical Theatre & other Internet Radio Open Mic Shows.
She’s been the Featured Speaker/Poet for a Non-Profit Organization’s Workshop benefiting Underprivileged Teen Girls for Prom.
She was also the Featured Poet for a local Short Film Writer’s Debut Screening of her Film.
In 1996, The National Library of Congress Published one of her early poems.
Shavonne is interested in Hosting events, as well as sharing her Poetry with schools, groups, local organizations, etc.
